Autumn fresh for Yarra River
Melbourne Water has commenced an environmental water release to the Yarra River.
Approximately 12 billion litres of water from the Upper Yarra Reservoir and Maroondah Reservoir will replenish the river from 18 May to 15 June.
Otherwise known as an ‘autumn fresh’, the objective of the release is to provide a cue for the threatened fish species Australian Grayling to spawn.
River levels will increase up to 40 centimetres along the Yarra River and up to 90 centimetres along Watts River in the Healesville area.
These are well within the natural variation of the river, however, Melbourne Water will closely monitor water levels during the entire release period.
Peak flows will occur at Millgrove from 27 May to 4 June. Warrandyte will experience peak flows from 1 June to 7 June.
