Merri Creek pollution caused by burst mains
Several burst mains were determined to be the cause of discoloured water in Merri Creek, upstream of Heidelberg Road in Clifton Hill on Wednesday 10 June.
Community reports prompted a response by Environment Protection Officers (EPO) from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) this week who confirmed the burst mains were the cause of the discoloured water. Yarra Valley Water completed emergency work which stopped the leakage into the creek.
The Victorian community has a vital role in protecting the environment. Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) relies on the community to report incidents of pollution, environmental hazard or other activities potentially harmful to the environment.
If you see, hear or smell pollution please report it to the EPA Pollution Hotline 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC) or online.
More information about reporting pollution can be found on EPA’s website.
