Bacterial water quality is sampled weekly by Melbourne Water at four sites in the Yarra River to:
- provide the data necessary to support EPA’s water quality forecasting
- provide water quality alerts to the public if bacterial levels are higher than expected and not safe for swimming
- identify short-term recreational water quality problems
- look for long term changes in water quality.
An alert will be issued via this website and Twitter when testing confirms water quality is Unacceptable for swimming. The testing triggers are based on the latest guidance and information available, and agreed to with Department of Health.
