Minister Smith opens bookings for Summer by the Sea.

More than 300 free beach and marine activities to choose from across Victoria.

Victorian Government committed to providing Victorians with opportunities to enjoy our coastlines and parks.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith today invited Victorians to participate in more than 300 free beach and marine activities across Victoria.

Mr Smith said the Summer by the Sea program, taking place between 2 to 26 January 2014, offers Victorians a great opportunity to discover their coastal environments.

“The Victorian Government’s Summer by the Sea program encourages Victorians to find out more about marine life and our beautiful coastal environments,” Mr Smith said.

“With over 300 activities available, there’s something for everyone, including kayaking, rock pool rambles, junior ranger activities for kids and adventure safaris.

"Victoria’s coastal and marine environments support a variety of species and habitats and we have a shared responsibility to take care of it.

“Not only are these beach and marine activities a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors, it’s also an opportunity to learn about the many challenges the environment faces from growing populations to coastal erosion.

“Our marine and coastal environments are to be shared and cared for by all Victorians. We all need to work together to help conserve our coastal areas for the future.

“I encourage Victorians to book early as places are limited and fill up quickly.”

Summer by the Sea is run by state government groups with the support of  local volunteers and coastcare experts.
